MIP offers tin plating services that meet all your engineering needs and corrosion protection requirements. MIP meets most tin plating specifications required by the following industries:
Military
Automotive
Aerospace, and
Electrical Industries
Tin is a white, non-toxic, solderable, soft deposit metal with the following advantages:
Tin is very soft and malleable and can be transformed without any cracking
Tin is highly corrosion resistant
Tin is highly tarnish resistant
Tin acts as a good electrical conductor
The solderability of tin can is affected by the substrates used since several metals react and migrate into tin, forming a non-solderable inter metallic layers. This is of particular concern when tin is plated over brass. The tin will migrate into the iron, in turn, limiting the shelf life of the finished parts. To counter this, MIP applies an undercoat of copper or nickel to form a tin cast, which will, in turn, limit the migration of zinc.
We offer the following finishing types for tin plating:
Matte - Has better solderability
Semi-bright
Bright - Specified more for appearance
MIP processes tin on copper and tin on iron plating using the following base metal substrates:
Brass
Aluminum
Iron
Copper
Bronze
Beryllium
and more
Our tin plating process conforms to the following standards:
ASTM B545
MIL T 10727
MPS0023
We use a four 285 gallon tank for our tin plating process. We also have in-house equipment such as thickness measurement instruments and X-ray machine to measure thickness of precision parts and components. MIP is a certified Class Two vendor of the ISO 9002 quality system. We have drum or rack plating capabilities for larger and delicate parts that are prone to easier damage. Rack plating is performed by hanging the parts to be plated on racks with stiff wires that hold the parts firmly ensuring efficient plating. Racking is ideal for grouping individual parts together with electrical continuity so that the individual parts can be plated as a group. This facilitates increased productivity and lower pricing than individually electroplating the same parts.
